Do you ever look at yourself in the mirror and feel as if something is missing? There might not be anything necessarily ‘wrong’ with your look, but it may not have that certain je ne sais quoi that all fabulous outfits should have. There are a number of ways you can add interest to your look; here are 9 of my favourites:
1. Clash Colours
Have fun with clashing colours and mix them up a little. Sure, matching/complimentary colours can look great. But clashing colours can seriously make an outfit pop! Purple and acid green are two of my favourite clashing colours.
2. Wear Different Textures
An outfit won’t have visual interest unless you wear different textures. You don’t have to wear too many, as this can get wasted on the naked eye. However, a couple of textures are sure to give your outfit the x factor. Why not wear a pair of textured trousers and a furry handbag together? These details might go unnoticed from afar, but close up they’ll look amazing!
3. Add Metallics and Other Finishes
An interesting finish on clothing, such as a metallic or iridescent finish, will give your outfit more depth. You don’t need to go all out so you look like a spaceman or woman, but one item with a finish such as this will make your look a special one. If you pair this with some more of my glamour tips, you’re bound to look amazing!
4. Pile on Your Jewellery
An outfit isn’t fabulous without piles of your favourite jewellery. You can afford to experiment with this, so try on statement pieces to see how you feel. You may only need one statement necklace to funk up your look, or you might want to wear tons of bangles and rings to give a laid back ‘gypsy’ effect. I think the wrist looks naked without a watch; rose gold watches are my favourite! If you need inspiration, take a look on Instagram or Pinterest.
5. Layer Up
Layering clothes is great for the cooler months, and will make your outfit look much more professional. People like Lauren Conrad love this tip! She likes to wear fur gilets over long sleeved tops, finished with a waist cinching belt and a scarf tucked in. Perfect!
6. Mix Clothes from Different Eras
Why not mix clothes from different eras to create a whole new look? You could mix modern day pieces with 70s inspired pieces, or even 60s inspired pieces with 90s inspired pieces. Just make sure that everything you wear is ‘you’ – you’ll only look uncomfortable if it isn’t!
7. Add a Vintage Piece
One vintage pieces is unique enough to add a lovely effect to any outfit.
8. Don’t Be Afraid of Patterns
I love adding a bit of pattern in every outfit I wear, whether that’s with my shoes, bag, or belt.
9. Concentrate on the Details
The little details really do matter, so focus on things like your socks, jacket lining, and whether you have your shirt untucked or tucked in. Small things like this may not seem like they matter, but in the end they all result in a more interesting outfit.
I hope you love using these tips as much as I do!
