Trust me when I say this – I have tried almost every method out there to lose weight. Pills, powders, creams, heavy weights, fad diets, slow-carb diets, no-carb diets, fat only diets. I also tried programs like Beachbody and Insanity, 5 times a week, which left my muscles aching, sore and screaming for weeks afterward. I followed this program for a solid month.
Let me tell you what I had to show for it – exactly 5 pounds of weight loss. After a month of nearly killing myself! I felt frustrated and close to tears, not just because I would wake up at night because of my muscle aches. With the intensive physical activity came massive appetite increases and humongous sugar cravings. I craved bacon and salty fries. Guess what happened – yes, I occasionally gave in to these cravings.
I would then be overcome with guilt and shame and then lose myself to a binge eating period.
A few months of this on-and-off diet/exercise plan and the situation become terrible. I had put on 9 pounds of weight! Yes, over and above my so called fat loss. And this weight was the worst kind possible, lumpy, sickening fat that looked ugly over my swollen muscles. I looked worse and more noticeably fat than ever. I need a change dammit!
I was <this> close to quitting forever. The effort just didn’t seem worth it! I was ready to resign myself to a lifetime of obesity and it seemed convenient to blame my mother’s genetics – if she was fat, how could I ever be thin? If my hormones were whack out of order, who am I to resist the cravings of sugar, salt and bread – this is the way God has built my body, and I should just accept it – right? Right?
This was my situation up until I was introduced to Nancy, who I met at work (We are fast friends now). I was impressed by Nancy who had a wonderful body and seemed so self-confident and cheerful – she gave out positivity to everyone around her. When we talked, I found out she was an expert nutritionist and kinesiologist – she has a decade of experience in exercise and diet! And Nancy only had a single piece of advice for me.
Erica, you’re going about losing weight horribly wrong. Your diet dictates 90% of your fat loss – why are you focusing on anything else? You need to change how you eat.
She told me to check out a concept called Intermittent Fasting. I had read about if of course, but my inner skeptic had just brushed it aside as a fad diet. Now, however, I took it a little more seriously. Through my research I came across Brad Pilon’s Eat Stop Eat handbook. Sighing and getting that old familiar feeling that I was once again whipping out my credit card for an useless piece of information on my already overloaded hard drive, I decided to push resistance aside and go for it.
But then, something happened that I could never anticipate. The E-S-E PDF opened my eyes like very few books have done. Brad made absolute logical sense, but that was not all – the program seemed to be resonating with me, and with my core, intuitive self. The science made self – and trust me, I consider myself to be a bit of a weight-loss geek. I know practically everything about weight loss, but the sad and ironic part was that I had nothing to show for it then.
The Method told me to start with very, very small changes in my lifestyle – for example – skipping breakfast, reducing the quantity of dinner and so on, which was easy enough to do. It turned out to be a step by step guide for the next 2 months – a practical handholding as far as I was concerned.
I pushed my ego aside. I went to the local print store and printed out all the charts and checklists. I stuck them everywhere (yes the kids were annoyed lol). I started meditating on them, reflecting on them every single day and most importantly, following them to a T.
In 2 weeks, I could feel and see my fat melting off (I measure using a bioelectric body fat scale). 2 more weeks later, there was visible change. In the 7th week colleagues started coming up to me and asking me, “Erica, what the heck are you doing?“
I could see where they were coming from. In those 7 weeks I had shed an insane 10 pounds, was wearing a top that was 1 size smaller. My skin was glowing and my face was tight. I wasn’t pulling away my shirts from my belly anymore! My body fat percentage was down to 17%.
And how was I feeling? Pretty darn great! I was not cranky, I was not “low carb irritated”. In fact, I felt energized most of the day! My coffee consumption was down and the office donuts gave me a feeling of revulsion.
I had hacked my hormones into destroying my cravings, I was the master of my appetite. Finally, I controlled my body and my moods, instead of the other way around.
All because of a single file on my hard drive.
Looking back, this program gave me the 2 things that were holding my success back. Without these, I was failing again, and again, it was as simple as that.
- The drive to lose weight – and the 3 keys toward it – desire, belief and an expectation of losing weight.
- A step by step action plan that took me from where I am, to where I wanted to be.
Intermittent fasting results will be shown only through the requisite effort and patience. But through personal experience I can tell you that the program is toughest in the first 2 weeks. You might experience cravings, hunger, listnessness and the desire to give up. Don’t give in!! It gets better, and that is my promise to you.
For the first 2 weeks, if your will isn’t strong enough and you’re a slave to your cravings, then you will fail at this, plain and simple.
If, like me, you’re sick to the bone of experiment, of trial and failure, and the countless bits of conflicting advice on the Internet, you need to stop.
Follow This Program!
It changes your life, the same way it changed mine. I really hope to see you on the other side, and WHEN you get the results you want, contact me. I’d love to hear your story and feature you on my website.
