If you’re in a relationship with a guy right now, you know that sometimes they’re a bit quiet. Not all guys are big talkers when it comes to personal problems. Many clam up and dwell on their issues without ever revealing that they have any. But the secret to a strong relationship is an open conversation. So how can you gently promote more open lines of communication with your man?
It can be a good idea to look for clues about what the problem may be. There are lots of things guys can get embarrassed or nervous about. Not all guys like to talk about things that are affecting them emotionally. Yet sometimes it can be the most common problems that they don’t want to talk about.
The biggest bothers for guys include balding, excess body hair, weight gain, and performance in the bedroom. We girls are pretty observant. We notice when these things start to happen! So why not talk about it? The topics may be hard to weave into a natural conversation. Instead, you need to wait for the moment when it’s obviously on their mind. Perhaps they’re on the bathroom scales, or checking out their scalp?
Get ahead of the game too. If you think something is bothering your fella, why not do some research. The internet is full of advice about male pattern balding, weight loss, and erectile dysfunction treatments. The information isn’t hard to find, and it might just provide you with enough information to offer up some advice as well as suggestions to help.
Sometimes it can be easier to lead by example. Let’s face it, we girls know a thing or two about body hair removal! Maybe ask your man to help with a tricky area, like the back of your leg. You can talk about what the treatment does and how it feels. You may find some missing from the container next time you need it! Or it might pave the way to him asking questions more relevant to his body hair problems.
If weight gain is a problem for your fella, why not ask him to be a training partner in your new fitness program? You can talk together about achieving optimal health through changing your lifestyle together. Some guys need to feel needed. So if you need him to help you with your weight loss, it may be just the push he needs to get involved in more exercise himself.
Sometimes guys talk more when they’re physically doing something else. Distraction techniques can help him open up a little more. Try a game of pool, or maybe cooking a meal together. Don’t expect a lot of eye contact, because this can feel like too much pressure for some people. Instead, listen and ask questions that might help him open up a little more. Everyone is different, so it may take some trial and error to find out what works best in your relationship. And if he’s the strong, silent type, maybe all you can do is leave him some physical signs!
