As Summer approaches, many of us prefer a fresher makeup look. Daylight is actually the harshest light we can be exposed to. Although we might wish to cover up any flaws or blemishes because of the high visibility, being caked in makeup is actually twice as visible. Achieving the “no makeup” makeup look is all about strategy. A small amounts of effective products applied in strategic places. It’s just not necessary to cover every inch of our faces and it is not attractive either. In the Summer, we naturally perspire more as the temperature rises so our skin needs to be breathe. Don’t be tempted to block your pores with heavy foundation or powder. With a few quick and easy tips, you can look fresh and pretty all day with minimal effort.
Remember, whatever makeup look you go for, stay safe in the sun by applying SPF. Even when the sky is overcast, we are constantly exposed to harmful rays that age us faster and can lead to severe skin problems. Seek out skincare and makeup brands that include an SPF for a convenient way to apply it on a daily basis!
A minimal makeup look relies heavily on the skin looking fresh and tactile. It is perfectly acceptable to “pin point” conceal. Carefully cover any blemishes that you feel self-conscious about but don’t be tempted to stray too far from the edges. Most of us have a few spots or pigmentation here and there, with plenty of perfectly clear and lovely skin. It looks far more natural to lightly cover problem areas and leave the rest fresh. This makes it particularly important to select a shade of concealer or makeup that is exactly our skin tone. Consider a tinted moisturiser or BB cream for a lighter form of foundation. If you are not concerned by blemishes or prefer to keep your skin completely bare, then maybe just have a few blotting sheets for on the go. With a small amount of cream blush on the apples of the cheeks, you’ll look youthful, glowing and ready for Summer.
Don’t be tempted to do an entire eyeshadow routine for a “no makeup” makeup look. While there are plenty of light and neutral shadows to choose from, chances are you don’t even need them! It can be far better to focus on the eyelashes. A slick of lengthening mascara, free from clumps, and tidy eyebrows can be more than enough to frame the face. If you don’t want to risk mascara for swimming or the beach, then simply curl your eyelashes. If you want to amp up your look for the evening while still staying natural, choose colored contacts based on your eye color to enhance your look. Or smudge a kohl pencil along the lashline for subtle definition.
Our lips can be the first area of our makeup to show wear and tear. They can become dry, cracked, and smudged during the course of a normal day. For a low maintenance look, it can be better to avoid noticeable colours. Stick with a colour close to your natural lip shade or even just a clear balm. Keeping lips hydrated and well moisturised is the key to them looking full and presentable. No elaborate liner or colours required!
